The P. Douglas Kindschi Hall of Science and The Marketplace have been awarded LEED® Gold status by the U.S. Green Building Council, demonstrating Grand Valley's commitment to sustainable progress through innovative design and construction.

LEED® certification is based on several factors, including site sustainability, water efficiency, energy use, materials and resources, environmental quality and innovation in design.

The 151,522-square-foot Kindschi Hall of Science was built to support the growing student population preparing for health professions careers and offers vital laboratory research space for instructional and research expansion. James Moyer, associate vice president for Facilities Planning, said the opportunity for technology integration, sustainability and healthy design, building flexibility, energy efficiency and connectivity were all central design factors for the new facility which opened in August 2015.

The Marketplace is a 43,000-square-foot building connected to Kindschi Hall of Science and includes the new University Bookstore. The facility, which opened in July 2015, provides space for food sales, book and clothing sales and a centralized printing operation.

Grand Valley now has 23 LEED® certified facilities.
