Student Media to host Lakers for a Cure Telethon
Grand Valley’s three student media organizations will join forces for
the 2nd annual “Lakers for a Cure Telethon” to help raise money for
Relay For Life in support of the American Cancer Society.
Last year, WCKS Whale Radio, The Lanthorn, and the student
television station, GVTV, exceeded their goal of raising more than
$2,400 in just 24 hours. This year, the fundraising goal has been
hiked to $3,000, still in a 24-hour period.
The collaborative event kicks off at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday,
April 2, at the Cook Carillon Tower with a luminaria ceremony. The
24-hour fundraiser will begin at 10 p.m. Throughout the day
Thursday, April 3, donation tables will be set-up in Kirkhof Center
accepting cash, check and credit card (via PayPal) donations.
Also on Thursday, WCKS Whale Radio will be broadcasting live from
Kirkhof from 2-10 p.m. and GVTV will host the live telethon broadcast
from 7-10 p.m. in Area 51, Kirkhof Center. The three-hour show will
consist of entertainment acts including music, stand-up comedy,
dancing and more. The program will also welcome speakers who have been
affected by cancer and representatives from various organizations.
Anyone is welcome to sit in as part of the live audience.
The fundraiser will end at 10 p.m. Thursday, at the end of the
telethon broadcast. All proceeds will be donated directly to the GVSU
Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society.
