The Rowing Club at Grand Valley will dedicate their newest boat for
Rachel Ring. Ring died in an automobile accident in October 2011. A
ceremony will be held April 12.
Ring joined the Grand Valley women’s novice rowing team during
her first semester at Grand Valley in the fall of 2011. Her family
donated funds for the boat that will be named the “Rachel Ring,
1991-2011.”

Ring’s family will unveil the boat, and team members, coaches,
and Grand Valley administrators, including Grand Valley President
Thomas J. Haas, will make remarks during the ceremony.
“The decision for Rachel’s family to donate the new boat will
not only benefit the entire rowing program, but will also carry on
Rachel’s memory for years to come,” said John Bancheri, head rowing coach.
The ceremony will take place one day before athletes throughout
the Midwest compete at the annual Lubbers Cup Regatta at the Spring
Lake Yacht Club on April 13 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The “Rachel Ring” will
compete in its inaugural race at the regatta. More information about
