Preview of upcoming MAREC events and speakers

Grand Valley’s Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center has a slate of events planned for the fall that will cover diverse topics.

All events will start or take place at MAREC and can be viewed on the events calendar. Some include:

Introduction to PACE
Tuesday, August 21, 1-3 p.m.
The Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program allows municipalities to include renewable energy installations on property tax bills. Greg Truex, president of Michigan PACE and MAREC incubator tenant, will provide an introduction to the program, its history, who can participate and how to participate. The presentation is cosponsored by Muskegon County for municipal officials and leaders.

Summer Speaker Series: Renovation in the New Energy Economy

Wednesday, August 29, noon-1 p.m.
A nationally renowned advocate on energy and green renovations for existing homes, Matt Grocoff is the host of GreenovationTV, a contributor to the Environment Report on public radio and the green renovation expert for Old House Web. His home was selected as one of USA Today’s “Best Green Homes of 2010.” It is America’s oldest and Michigan’s first net-zero energy home, meaning it annually produces more energy than his family consumes. Attendance is free, no RSVP is required.

MAREC Advisory Board Annual Meeting
Monday, September 24, 3:30-5 p.m.
MAREC Director Arn Boezaart and researchers from the School of Engineering will provide an update on the Lake Michigan Offshore Wind Assessment Project. The meeting is open to the public.

2012 American Solar Energy Society Solar Tours: Muskegon Edition

Saturday, October 6, two tours will go from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 1-3 p.m.
The tours will include visits to solar energy installations at residences and businesses throughout Muskegon and the lakeshore community. Tours will include stops at new installations that have gone online since MAREC’s last solar tour.

A variety of workshops for entrepreneurs will go from September to November and will cover topics ranging from writing a business plan to managing finances. Visit MAREC’s event calendar for more information.
