MAREC to offer solar tours of Muskegon homes
Grand Valley’s Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center
will host free solar tours of Muskegon-area homes on Saturday, October 6.
The homes will display how solar energy can affect monthly
energy bills, reduce harmful carbon emissions and improve property
values.
The 45-minute, self-guided tours will run at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.,
starting at MAREC, 200 Viridian St. The tours are open to the public
and RSVP is not required.
The tours are cosponsored by the Muskegon-Oceana Community
Action Partnership (MOCAP). It is part of the American Solar Energy
Society’s National Solar Tour, held annually for the past 17 years
throughout the U.S. to showcase more than 5,000 solar-powered homes,
schools and businesses.
“The ASES National Solar Tour shows real-life examples of how
homeowners are harnessing free energy from the sun to generate
electricity, warm and cool their homes, heat water and slash monthly
utility bills,” said Kim Walton, program director for MAREC.
