Brooks Kindel, business growth specialist at the Michigan SBDC, died on May 21, 2025. He was 72.

Kindel joined Grand Valley's staff in 2014. Jim McLain, MI-SBDC growth team manager, said Kindel's death will leave a void at the SBDC and his impact, style and abilities will be deeply missed.

"As a dedicated and trusted colleague, he shared a lifetime of invaluable experience with small business owners and teammates across the state," McLain said. "His personable and direct way of addressing challenges set him apart, and his legacy of excellence in business consulting and program development will continue to inspire."

Kindel served on the boards of Fountain Street Church and the Forest Hills Schools Educational Foundation. A celebration of life is being planned.
