President Philomena V. Mantella was a guest on a Diverse Issues in Higher Education podcast, discussing Grand Valley's inclusion in the first cohort of institutions to receive the Diverse Organizational Impact and Transformation (DOIT) Certification.

Ten institutions earned DOIT certification, which is based on four pillars: institutional leadership and commitment, curricular and co-curricular accountability, climate, and representation. Institutions were evaluated by Diverse Issues in Higher Education and Coopwood Diversity Leadership & Education Universal.

In the 45-minute podcast, Mantella discussed Grand Valley's commitment to inclusion and educational access and how those values are embedded across the university and connect to the Reach Higher 2025 strategic plan.

“We see the promise of individuals of all backgrounds, but we understand that those structures of systemic inequity are really inhibiting the equality of opportunity,” she said.
