Nathan Kemler, director of galleries and collections, was interviewed by WOOD-TV for a story about the Mathias Alten sculpture installed on the Pew Grand Rapids Campus.

Christian Glupker, clinical affiliate faculty of economics, was interviewed by WOOD-TV and WZZM-TV for stories about the impact of ArtPrize for Grand Rapids' economy.

Al Steinman, Allen and Helen Hunting professor of water resources, was interviewed by the Detroit News and MLive for stories about about a federal cleanup program for the Great Lakes.

Departments team to host national conference attendees at Shape Corp. IDC
Attendees at the National Education Telecommunications Association (NETA) public media conference took a field trip to the Shape Corp. Innovation and Design Center on the Pew Grand Rapids Campus September 14 to participate in an interactive STEM activity.

The field trip was hosted by WGVU Public Media and the College of Education and Community Innovation. Participants were asked to make an aircraft from office supplies that could travel through a wind tunnel. 

The focus of the conference was exploring how different community- and university-based organizations can play a role in providing innovative, experiential learning that fosters student connections to local communities.

Michael Wolfe, professor of psychology, was a 2023 recipient of the Reviewer of the Year award from the journal Discourse Processes. Recipients are selected based on the quality and quantity of their reviews, constructive feedback for authors, and clear identification of important issues. 

William J. Neal, professor emeritus of geology, was a co-author of an article, "A Geological Perspective of Plastic Pollution," published in Science of the Total Environment, and "Decoding Plastic Pollution in the Geological Record: A Baseline Study on the Caribbean Coast of Colombia, North Corner of South America," published in the Marine Pollution Bulletin. Neal was a co-editor of a special issue of the Marine Pollution Bulletin, and co-author of an article, "Sediment Pollution in Coastal and Marine Environments," published in that issue.

Biomedical sciences faculty members Ian Cleary and Derek Thomas were among the co-authors of an article, "Constitutive ALS3 expression in Candida Albicans Enhances Adhesion and Biofilm Formation of efg1, but not cph1 Mutant Strains," published in Biomedical Sciences.

Deborah Herrington, professor of chemistry, gave a presentation, "Using Simulations and Screencasts to Support Student Independent Learning in an Online Environment: What are the Benefits and Challenges?" at the Gordon Research Conference on Chemistry Education Research and Practice. 

Sean Lancaster, assistant vice president for Academic Affairs, gave a keynote presentation, "The Intersection of Technology, Pedagogy and Learning," at the International Conference of Culture, Languages and Literature in Xi'an, China. 

Jacquie Molloseau, a summer intern at the Annis Water Resources Institute and a Kindschi undergraduate research fellow, and Al Steinman, Allen and Helen Hunting professor of water resources, were co-authors of an article, “Chloride and Phosphorus Retention and Release in Soils Surrounding a Salt-contaminated Lake in West Michigan," published in the Journal of Freshwater Ecology.
