Faculty and staff members who have given presentations, were
recognized for outstanding contributions or had their research
published are detailed below. The campus community can submit
a sketch online for future publication.
Al Steinman, the Allen and Helen Hunting Research
Professor at the Annis Water Resources Institute, was appointed to the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Science Advisory
Board’s Ecosystem Sciences and Management Working Group. The
appointment is a three-year term.
Elena Lioubimtseva, professor of geography and
sustainable planning, gave a presentation, "The Role of
Non-climatic Data in Climate Services for Adaptation Planning,"
during Calvin University's Geology, Geography and Environment seminar.
Lioubimtseva gave a presentation, "Cities Adapt to Climate
Change," at a Citizens Climate Lobby meeting of the Grand Rapids,
Holland and Lakeshore chapters.
Salvatore Alaimo, associate professor of nonprofit
administration, gave a presentation, "The Evaluation Capacity of
Czech Nonprofit Social Services Organizations," at the American
Evaluation Association Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Bopi Biddanda, professor of water resources, gave a
presentation, "Exploring Great Lakes' Hidden Geoparks: Lake
Huron's Sinkholes," for the Working Waterfront Lecture Series
hosted by the Maritime Museum in South Haven.
Jennifer L. Smart, associate professor of audiology
and graduate program director, received the Dean’s Faculty Fellow
award for the College Health Professions' 20th Anniversary
Celebration. The celebration will take place during the upcoming fall semester.
Matthew Roberts, senior instructional design
specialist for eLearning Technologies, gave a presentation,
"Synchronish, Not Synchronous: Deeper Engagement Through
Lingering Digital Presence," at the Lilly Conference on College
and University Teaching in Traverse City.
Joel Wendland-Liu, associate professor of
interdisciplinary studies, gave a presentation, "A Marxist
Classic: Maurice Dobb's Studies in the Development of
Capitalism," at the International Publishers 100th Anniversary Symposium.
The Boise State News highlighted "Michigan Listens" in a story about the collaborative event. Nursing faculty member Julie Bekius was elected to the board of the Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioners.
The recent Best of CASE District V Awards competition recognized Kendra Stanley-Mills, who took this "Office Hours" photograph of Jason Yancey, Cory Morse, Brian Vernellis and Institutional Advancement's annual giving team.
