Marie Noe, retired executive assistant

Marie Noe, retired executive assistant, died June 19, 2025. She was 91.

Noe began her career at Grand Valley in 1972, initially working in the Admissions Office. She retired in 2001 as an executive assistant for the University Relations division.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Marie Noe Student Employee Success Endowed Scholarship to continue her legacy of supporting GVSU students.

Retired staff member
Robert "Bob" Bauer, who served as the art director for University Communications, died May 26, 2025. He was 83.

Bauer began working at Grand Valley in 1973 and retired in 2000. Many pieces of his work remain in the university's collection, including designs for the president's holiday cards, athletic art for the Fieldhouse galleries and posters for theater productions.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Harbor Hospice, 1050 W. Western Ave., Suite 400, Muskegon, MI 49441.

Virginia “Ginny” Sietsema, retired academic department coordinator, died July 2, 2025.

Sietsema worked for Grand Valley from 1992 until her retirement in 2018 from the Biomedical Sciences Department.

Memorial contributions can be made to Keys for Kids Ministries.

Former campus minister
The Rev. Sherwin John "Chic" Broersma, who served Grand Valley as a campus minister, died on April 21, 2025. He was 88.

Broersma was the regional pastor and coordinator for the Reformed Church in America campus ministries at four universities, including Grand Valley.

Memorial contributions may be made to Western Theological Seminary or Words of Hope.
