In Memoriam
Retired faculty member
Jerry Scripps, retired College of Computing instructor, died July 26, 2026, at age 69 from injuries sustained in a bicycle accident.
Scripps joined the faculty in 1997 and retired in 2022. He earned degrees from Taylor University, Boston College and Michigan State University.
Described as a lifelong learner, he enrolled in the Kirkhof College of Nursing after retiring from GVSU and earned a bachelor's degree in nursing.
Marouane Kessentini, dean of the College of Computing, said: "Jerry was a longtime member of our GVSU and Computing community, and his impact extended well beyond the classroom. He touched the lives of many students and colleagues throughout his years at Grand Valley. Most recently, Jerry had begun an inspiring new chapter, graduating from GVSU's nursing program and preparing to serve others as a registered nurse."
Memorial contributions are suggested to The Community Food Club of Grand Rapids or one of the GVSU programs Scripps supported.
