Schwarzman Scholars is the first scholarship created to respond to the geopolitical landscape of the 21st century. Apply for a one-year, fully-funded master's program at Tsinghua University in Beijing, designed to build a global community of future leaders who will serve to deepen understanding between China and the rest of the world. Scholars from around the world live together and engage in unparalleled learning opportunities during their immersive year at the College. They develop connections with leaders from China and around the world in high-level lectures and our mentorship program, and they participate in internships and projects with local businesses and organizations. In addition to building professional networks, students develop bonds and gain a greater understanding and appreciation of contemporary China while exploring Beijing and beyond on-site visits and excursions.

Schwarzman Scholars is a fully-funded, one-year master’s degree and leadership program at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. At the heart of the program are world-renowned advisers, a rigorous and innovative study of global affairs, and hands-on exploration of Chinese culture and commerce.

The program is open to candidates aged 18 to 28, regardless of nationality, who are proficient in English and have an undergraduate degree or its equivalent. Mandarin skills are not required for admission. Whether in politics, business, sciences, or the arts — successful applicants are young people who have already demonstrated both the ability to lead in their chosen fields and a commitment to building understanding among people with differing perspectives.

Awards are made to 100–200 applicants per year, worldwide.  Every year, a new class is selected to represent the world’s next generation of leaders — high-caliber individuals with open minds and limitless potential who will serve to deepen understanding between China and the rest of the world.

Prospective Scholars are expected to demonstrate academic excellence, exceptional results in their field and outstanding leadership qualities. Schwarzman Scholars embrace the opportunity to understand other cultures, perspectives and positions. Candidates who are most qualified to meet the high demands of the program must exhibit excellence in the following areas:

  • Leadership Abilities
  • Exemplary Character and Integrity
  • Academic Aptitude and Intellectual Ability
  • Empathy and Intercultural Competency
  • Open-Mindedness
