We believe that as musicians it is the continuing responsibility (and expression of joy) to discover exciting new composers and pieces. As a piano/violin duo, we were delighted to rediscover the works of Clara Kathleen Rogers, Rossetter Cole, and Rubin Goldmark, and have been hard at work preparing and recording an album of four works from these composers.

The concert will feature Rogers' Sonata for Piano and Violin, Cole's Sonata for Piano and Violin, and two transcribed songs by Goldmark - "We are the music-makers", and "I have done, Put by the Lute". Rogers, daughter of English composer John Barnett, was a successful opera singer. She moved on to composing and teaching in Boston, MA, including serving as faculty at the New England Conservatory of Music. She also held frequent house concerts and gathered musicians and friends around her, including Amy Beach and George Chadwick. Cole, a native of Michigan state, likewise led a fruitful life, very much in the educational space - he was an advocate and leader in various compositional, educational and musical societies, including the Music Teachers National Association and the New York Manuscript Society. Born in New York, Goldmark was equally known as a composer and pianist, and notably was a student of Dvorak, and taught Aaron Copland and George Gershwin. He served as the head of composition at the Juilliard School of Music in its early decades of founding.
