For the September 2025 session of Open Minds, we will be reading and discussing The Pursuit of Happiness How Classical Writers on Virtue Inspired the Lives of the Founders and Defined America by Jeffrey Rosen.

New York Times bestseller and an “enriching…brilliant” (David W. Blight, Pulitzer Prize–winning author of Frederick Douglass) examination of what “the pursuit of happiness” meant to our nation’s Founders and how that famous phrase defined their lives and became the foundation of our democracy.

The discussion for this book will be held on Wednesday, September 24, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm in the Richard M. DeVos Center’s Meijer Regency Room located on the GVSU City Campus.

For this meeting only, free copies of the book will be provided to all registered attendees. Books can be mailed directly to you or picked up in the Hauenstein Center offices in the DeVos Center on the fifth floor.

The first round of books will be mailed to those who register by midnight on August 15th. The final round of books will be mailed to those who register by midnight on August 29th. Following the final deadline, you must visit the HC offices to receive a copy of the book.
