Becoming Kin - Patty Krawec

Thank you for your interest in participating in the Open Minds Book Club!

For the October 2023 session of Open Minds, we will be reading and discussing  Becoming Kin: An Indigenous Call to Unforgetting the Past and Reimagining Our Future by Patty Krawec.

The invented history of the Western world is crumbling fast, Anishinaabe writer Patty Krawec says, but we can still honor the bonds between us. This remarkable sojourn through Native and settler history, myth, identity, and spirituality helps us retrace our steps and pick up what was lost along the way: chances to honor rather than violate treaties, to see the land as a relative rather than a resource, and to unravel the history we have been taught.

The discussion for this book will be held on Wednesday, October 25, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Richard M. DeVos Center’s Meijer Regency Room located on the GVSU Pew Campus.

Thanks to the generous support of our Hauenstein Center members, we are able to make copies of this book available for free to the first 20 individuals to register.

Please order or request your copy of the book by October 11th to allow time for shipping and to enjoy the reading before the discussion.
