Wednesday, January 12, 2022
6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Allendale Campus
Students

For GVSU students who would like a more formal and private introduction to the equipment and techniques of indoor rock climbing. This hands-on, small-group workshop will help transform participants from having no knowledge about climbing to being able to independently gear up for a climb, plan an appropriate path, and efficiently move through it. By the end of the workshop, participants should be confident in their ability to utilize the necessary protective equipment and techniques for climbing in our facility and similar environments. Topics will include: types of climbing, basic equipment, routes, rating systems and fundamentals of efficient movement.

No previous knowledge or equipment is necessary.  Equipment will be provided as-needed.

Each offering will be conclude with an optional Belay Lesson. Belaying is a fundamental skill which entails safely controlling a rope for a climber who is higher off the ground. This training will prepare participants to become qualified to belay for their friends at the wall and have less reliance on the staff. Belay lessons are also offered during open climb times upon request.
