Take your first step into backcountry adventure on our Intro to Backpacking Overnight Trip along Michigan's scenic Manistee River Trail. Designed for beginners, this overnight experience will introduce participants to essential backpacking skills, backcountry camping, gear management, and Leave No Trace principles while exploring one of the state's most beautiful trail systems.
Whether you're looking to build outdoor confidence, connect with fellow adventurers, or experience the rewards of backpacking for the first time, this trip is the perfect introduction to life on the trail. Pack your sense of adventure and join us for an unforgettable overnight in the Michigan wilderness!
Dates: October 3-4, 2026
Cost: $55 per person
Includes: Transportation, tent camping, group camp equipment, backpacks, meals while in camp
Mandatory Pre-Trip Meeting: Thursday, October 1st at 7:15pm
Registration: Opening Monday September 14th
GVSU students may seek financial support for up to $100 per academic year towards participation in Recreation & Wellness programs or services, while funds last. Details and application may be found on the RecWell Program Fund website.
