Hal Brands

Half a year into the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the ongoing buildup of tension between China and Taiwan, and the continuing “no-limits” friendship between Russia and China, the current geopolitical landscape necessitates a better understanding of the broad reach of authoritarianism abroad and at home. To provide this much-needed context, The Hauenstein Center is proud to welcome Hal Brands to our stage. Brands is the Henry A. Kissinger Distinguished Professor of Global Affairs at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. He is also a columnist for Bloomberg Opinion.

Join us to hear Hal draw upon his latest book, The Twilight Struggle: What the Cold War Teaches Us about Great-Power Rivalry Today. Brands will bring together historical lessons from the Cold War and contemporary ideas for a better understanding of how these events frame our world.
