Grand River Water Ceremony poster

Please join us on Monday, September 13th at 4pm for a Water Ceremony at the Grand Ravines Lodge just south of the Allendale Campus. Local Anishinaabe leaders, representing the Grand River Band of Ottawa Indians, will deliver an oral history about Owashtanong- the far-flowing-waters of the Grand River and its significance to the Anishinaabe People.

Light refreshments will be provided along with disposable gloves and trash bags to partake in a cleanup within the Grand Ravines park and south campus. Kayaks will be provided by Ottawa County Parks to cross the Grand River to the Greenway on the east shore. If you are interested in using a kayak please dress in clothes you don't mind getting wet!

The event will conclude at the Grand Ravines Lodge with refreshments provided. Additional closing words will be from GVSU Groundswell staff and Lin Bardwell of the GVSU Office of Multicultural Affairs.

This event is hosted in conjunction with the Office of Multicultural Affairs as a West Michigan Environmental Action Council Mayor's Grand River Cleanup Event. For more info on the Grand River and Cleanup, visit the WMEAC website
