Groundswell will start off the year with an immersive professional development (PD) experience focused on engaging with the local community. Educators will be introduced to the 6 Place-Based Education (PBE) Principles: 1) Scan the Community; 2) Choose an Issue; 3) Develop Partnerships; 4) Research Your Issue; 5) Complete an Action Project; 6) Share Results and Celebrate. The focus of the PD will then zoom in on the first two elements: Scan Your Community and Choose an Issue. Together with your peers, you will:

  • Discuss needs and issues within your community
  • Analyze potential student approaches to identifying these issues
  • Discover different ways to conduct a community scan
  • Explore Iterations of classroom set-up, management, and tactics for engaging in PBE within your local community
  • Review local partnership options and opportunities in our area

2 total SCECH credits available for this PD

Participants can expect a full agenda for the evening. Food and nonalcoholic drinks will be provided. This PD will be indoors.
