Dr. Chen Zhu Professor of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences

Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana

In this presentation, Dr. Zhu will share his experiences developing a community website (https://futurewater.indiana.edu), that includes, at its core, coupled surface-water and groundwater computer models of the Wabash River basin in Indiana. Computer models of watersheds can help us understand the relationship between climate, water quantity and water quality. Projections of changes in the hydrological cycle are key components of local, regional, and national water resource planning efforts and at the same time provide data for climate adaptation research such as biodiversity and species migration. Online teaching modules have been developed to allow students and community members to explore water availability under various climate change scenarios near their hometowns. The Henry Darcy Distinguished Lecture Series in Groundwater Science fosters interest and excellence in groundwater science and technology and is sponsored by the National Ground Water Association.
