On September 7, 1992, the first charter school in America opened its doors to families in Minnesota. Thirty years later, approximately 12.3 million children across the country have attended a charter public school.

Come explore the past, present, and future of charter public schools with special guest Ember Reichgott Junge , the former Minnesota state senator who authored the first charter school law in the nation.

Starting at 7:00 p.m., Ember will lead a presentation and panel discussion with some of Michigan's public education pioneers. Joining Ember will be:

  • Kristin Beltzer, board chair of PrepNet Virtual Charter Academy
  • Ralph Bland, CEO, New Paradigm for Education
  • Jase Bolger, former Speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives
  • Danielle Jackson, CEO, Detroit 90/90 and U Prep Schools

Prior to the discussion, all guests are welcome to join the CSO, the panelists, and others for a reception starting at 5:30 p.m. Light food and drinks will be provided.
