AEDs on Campus

An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic lifesaving device that can be used in the event of sudden cardiac arrest or similar loss of consciousness by an individual.  AEDs automatically diagnose potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias in a person.  The application of and AED can stop the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm.

With simple audio and visual commands, AEDs are designed to be used by anyone.  While training is not required, familiarity with an AED can provide the confidence needed to respond accordingly in a medical emergency.

Locations

AEDs are strategically placed in various community areas across campus. The classroom emergency placard in each classroom and larger conference rooms identify your nearest AED location.

Use these interactive maps to find AEDs around campus.

Good Samaritan Law

Under Michigan Good Samaritan laws, anyone, including an untrained bystander, is protected from civil litigation when using an AED in good faith.

Training Seminars

We recommend individuals take a training course sponsored through <Campus Recreation> for directions on proper use and application of an AED, as well as other life-saving techniques such as First Aid and CPR prior to using an AED.
