GVSU Orientation

Advising and Registration

In order to take the next step in your Grand Valley career you must schedule your Advising & Registration session. At this session, you will meet with an academic advisor to review your program requirements and register for your classes. Once you have your meeting scheduled with your academic advisor, you can coordinate an appointment to meet with a DSR program advisor on the same day.

Preparing for Advising and Registration

For May and June, all Advising & Registration appointments will be held online through individual video-conference appointments. This will provide customized and one-on-one guidance for each new Laker. Our expert staff and faculty advisors will work with you to ensure you are ready to begin your academic journey as Lakers with the right fall class schedule. For an online Advising & Registration session, you will need a computer or tablet with stable internet access that you can use for an online appointment on your registration day. Your advisor will contact you via email 3-4 business days prior to your registration day to set a time for your appointment.

In-person sessions may resume in July, pending state and federal guidance. If you prefer to move your session to a later date, you may adjust yours to any date available by using the online system. To do so, see the link in your confirmation email from when you first signed up.

For the health and safety of the Grand Valley community, advisors are currently working with students through a combination of email, phone and Zoom. They are still here to support your transition to GVSU and get all your questions answered, even though you won’t be meeting in person. Your advisor will be in touch with specific information about how your Transfer Advising & Registration session will be conducted and how to prepare.
