The GVSU Credential Wallet Pilot: Phase I

The first phase of the GVSU Credential Wallet Pilot focuses on building the essential infrastructure for digital credentials. This will provide you with a modern, flexible, and learner-centered complement to traditional transcripts while laying the groundwork for future expansion.

Students who accept the invitation to participate in this pilot can claim credentials for a comprehensive list of their completed, credit-bearing undergraduate courses. Each course is represented by a credential image, such as this example for a course in Cell and Molecular Biology.

Students who have successfully completed a credit-bearing undergraduate certificate can claim it as a credential within their Digital Credential Wallet. These certificates are displayed with a credential image similar to the example provided for Intercultural Communications.

Transfer credit from another institution may be awarded in one of two ways: direct credit or general credit. Direct credit transfer courses will have the course name on the badge, as in the example to the left. General transfer credits are represented non-specifically, as with the badge on the right.

What's Next

Late this spring, we will be issuing badge credentials for GVSU undergraduate degrees. These will be visually consistent with the course and certificate credentials, but with an added ribbon to signify the degree's distinction, as shown in the example for a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.

We also aim to expand credential offerings to include non-credit undergraduate badges. These credentials will enable students to capture, store, and share more detailed representations of their learning and experiences, connecting them to practical skills and competencies. Future phases will explore the development of new credentials in collaboration with colleges, departments, and co-curricular or extra-curricular programs. These additions will better reflect the diverse skills and experiences students gain outside the traditional classroom.

We’re excited to expand this initiative, creating more opportunities for students to showcase their achievements in meaningful ways. As we move forward, we will be engaging with regional and national employers to ensure the credentials we develop align with the specific skills and competencies they seek during the hiring process.
