Adding Credentials to Your Wallet
Your wallet is under your control: You decide what information it contains and with whom you share it. Therefore, it’s up to you to initiate the addition (or removal) of credentials. This section explains how to claim a credential issued by GVSU, how to record credentials issued from LinkedIn, Coursera, Udemy, or elsewhere, how to keep track of paper certificates that you have received for achievements or attending professional training sessions, and how to import credentials you may have in other wallets.
Claiming GVSU Credentials
Credentials issued by GVSU are known as “Verifiable Credentials.” These can include individual course grades, diplomas and degrees, credit– and non–non-credit-bearing certificates, microcredentials, and badges. They are considered verified because the information they contain is coded directly by the institution (like a grade on an official transcript) in ways that make them unalterable and unfalsifiable. When you connect your wallet to GVSU’s digital credential platform and accept a credential that you've earned, all of the information about that credential is passed securely to your wallet with no further effort required on your part.
Importing Credly Badges
Credly is a popular digital credential platform used by various formal and informal learning providers. Credly credentials take the form of badge images with data embedded in them in a secure and non-falsifiable manner. Your LifeJourney wallet can import the image and the underlying data directly into the Self-Asserted/Imported section of your wallet.
Adding Self-Asserted Credentials
Self-asserted credentials are those that do not originate directly from a learning provider’s information systems. Instead, you add them yourself, “asserting” that they are valid and that you have earned them. These credentials will appear in their own section of your wallet. Since we are in the early days of digital credentials, most credentials in your wallet that are not from GVSU will be self–asserted. Over time, as more providers and employers launch verified digital credentials, the proportion that is self-asserted will decrease.
Claiming Credentials From Other Institutions
If another institution is also able to issue credentials directly into the LifeJourney wallet, ask them how to activate your account. Once your account is established with your other institution, you'll be able to toggle between institutions within your wallet and see all of your credentials in one place.
If you're connected with other institutions that issue verifiable credentials into digital wallets other than LifeJourney, you can import them by following the instructions for "Importing Credly Badges" above.
