Installing FileMaker on your Computer

If you use RMS weekly, or for more intensive applications (calendar, lab prep, inventory management), the desktop client is the preferred method to use.  If you are on a GVSU Macintosh computer, you will install Claris FileMaker Pro from the GV Software app in your Applications folder.  If you are using a GVSU Windows 11 Device, you can install Claris FileMaker Pro from the GVSU Software Center on the Desktop.  If you do not see the application available and you would like to use it, please reach out to Zach Hancock ([email protected]).

Installing FileMaker on a Mobile Device

Claris FileMaker Go is available on iOS.  You can download this through the App Store or through the link on the right, and then access RMS through the app.  This is the easiest way to incorporate image references into your inventory items.  The instructions to install the software are provided in the PDF link.

If you are trying to access RMS on an Android device, you'll need to use the web version above.

  1. Launch FileMaker Pro/FileMaker Go
  2. Click the Add App button, and then From Hosts... (Pro) or Hosts (Go)
  3. Click the + in the upper left area of the resulting window.
  4. For the Host Address, enter in rms.clas.gvsu.edu
  5. For the Host Name, put RMS. Click Save.
  6. Once added, you should see a list of different files.  Scroll down and choose RMS.
