2024 Civil Discourse Symposium - Gen Z Voices: If We Were President

The 11th Annual Padnos/Sarosik Civil Discourse Symposium was held on November 21, 2024 and was led by Dr. Greg Warsen, Graduate Program Director for the Educational Specialist in Educational Leadership and the 2022-2024 Endowed Professor of Civil Discourse.

Elevating the voices, perspectives, values, and commitments of today’s students, the 11th annual civil discourse symposium invited student speakers to share their views about pressing social issues and their ideas about solutions. The symposium integrated its signature component: Small group conversations where people can have conversation and practice constructive dialogue skills. This symposium spotlighted the voices of Gen Z and invited them to respond to the prompt: If we were President of the United States, what social problems and solutions would we prioritize? Goals of this symposium included listening deeply to student perspectives and honoring intergenerational dialogue as our country works toward healing its post-election divisions.
