Citizen Social Science Training

The Citizen Social Science (CSS) Training was developed in partnership with GVSU Social Science Lab, the Muskegon Heights Neighborhood Association Council, and Coalition for Community Development to be a Muskegon Heights place-based training conducted in a collaborative environment.

Participants involved in the training are non-degree seeking community leaders serving non-profit organizations, educational efforts, entrepreneurial networks, resident advocacy groups, among others in Muskegon County's communities of color. The training builds capacity in data justice, ensuring that historically marginalized communities are positioned as researchers rather than the objects of research and inquiry. This work ensures that areas of concern are more authentically addressed, and that strengths are recognized and built upon.

Note: The Quantitative Data Training took place in Fall 2022 and the Quantitative Data Training is in progress in Winter 2023. The Fall 2022 training was supported in part by the Community Foundation for Muskegon County and the Sr. Simone Courtade Fund. The Winter 2023 training is supported in part by the Michigan Public Health Institute's Health Equity Council of Muskegon County.
