What is your current position and what do you find exciting about it?

My title is “Operations Manager” with ALS Environmental – Holland, MI.  I oversee daily operations of one of the largest environmental testing laboratories in the Mid-west with a staff of ~125 (including 35 GVSU alumn).  We provide legally defensible identification and quantification of hundreds of regulated environmental contaminants, including PFAS, volatile and semi-volatile organics, metals and other inorganics.  I enjoy applying diverse analytical techniques to challenging matrices, providing data used to inform public health decisions.

How did your GVSU Chemistry/Biochemistry degree help you prepare for your position?

My B.S. in Chemistry has allowed me to think critically about best practices and questioning how we can provide highly accurate results in a timely manner, all while giving me the background to understand underlying chemical processes.
