What is your current position and what do you find exciting about it?
I am currently a Latent Print Forensic Scientist with the Michigan State Police. What I find most exciting about my role is the opportunity to serve my community by providing public safety services. I am currently in training to perform latent print examinations and will also be trained in crime scene response.
How did your GVSU Chemistry/Biochemistry degree help you prepare for your position?
Latent print visualization requires using chemistry and light. One process we use is superglue fuming, followed by a dye stain that fluoresces under different wavelengths of light. My chemistry background helped me land my current position and helped me understand concepts in latent print development.
