What projects did you take part in during the internship?

During my time at Seal Bond, I had the opportunity to develop a silane-modified polymer-based exterior liquid flashing material as well as a liquid electronic potting and encapsulation material. I worked directly with chemical suppliers including Wacker, Kaneka, ACSIC, and Nitto Kasei to research materials and develop formulations. I also had the opportunity to color-match interior caulks to various paints and assist with coordinating the disposal of expired laboratory chemicals.

How did you get the internship?

I got the internship through my mentor and former senior chemist at Seal Bond, Nathaniel Stoller. When I applied and interviewed for the position, I had previous manufacturing experience and a strong interest in polymers and plastics. Although I had only completed one semester of organic chemistry at the time, Nathaniel saw that I had a strong passion for chemistry and a willingness to learn and work hard, which ultimately led to me being selected for the position.
