Even at an early age, Capitol Police Officer Deon Atkins knew he wanted to be in law enforcement and set his sights on becoming an FBI special agent.

Deon received his bachelor's degree in criminal justice in 2015.  He is now pursuing his master’s degree in criminal justice at Grand Valley and is expected to graduate in 2022.  He chose Grand Valley because of the stellar reputation of the GVSU Police Academy, small class sizes and beautiful campuses.

Deon is a private first-class officer who has been helping protect the Capitol, federal buildings and Congress since 2016.

He was also one of the officers who responded to the January 6 Capitol riots.
