WGVU Morning Show Interview with Alexis Reame, '10 & '17

Alexis chose Grand Valley State University (GVSU) for the small class sizes, beautiful campus, and the focus on a well-rounded liberal arts education. She also received a full tuition scholarship for her four years at GVSU.

She learned about the Hospitality and Tourism Management program through her now sister-in-law. Right from the start, she felt a connection with the other students and the faculty who were warm and welcoming and also shared her passion for people and service. Alexis appreciated the real-world, community-centered approach this program offered. One of the components of this program is the three required internships which she felt were crucial to becoming employable after graduation. Through these opportunities and the encouragement from the faculty, she was able to decide which aspects of the hospitality industry was the right fit for her.

As the Community Relations Manager at Lake Michigan Credit Union (LMCU), Alexis is able to represent LMCU in the community. Her role is part corporate responsibility which involves philanthropy and volunteering and part public relations where she represents LMCU at community events, speaking engagements and media interviews. She has always been drawn to service and in her current role she is able to connect people to their passion. Alexis believes it is our responsibility to make a positive impact in our community.

Her advice to students would be to gain as much real-world experience as you possibly can. Get a part-time job or volunteer in something you are passionate about. Not sure what your passion is, try different things to help you learn what those areas are that call to you. Never stop asking questions and continue to build and nurture your relationships. And lastly, connect with GVSU Alumni Relations. They are a great resource and are always willing to assist you.
