MTH 324 - Algebra for Elementary Teachers

Understand the development of algebraic thinking, including patterns, proportions, functions, variables, and algebraic structures. Topics include research on student thinking, representations, teaching methods, school curricula, and national standards. Fieldwork includes at least six hours of microteaching and structured observations in grades 5-8, including writing lessons/problems and observing/eliciting students' mathematical thinking. Offered at least one semester per year. Prerequisites: MTH 326 or (MTH 210 and one of: MTH 229, MTH 322, MTH 323).
