HST 336 - Africa After 1870

The course will focus on specific themes related to European conquest of Africa and the transformation of selected African cultures under colonial rule. Topics include: scramble for partition, military conquest, missionary activity, colonial economy and social changes, genocide and forced labor, resistance and nationalism, decolonization and liberation. Offered winter semester, odd numbered years. Prerequisite: HST 204, HST 235, or junior standing.
