Grand Rapids Public Museum has some opportunities in non-profit fund development or marketing, as well as education:
Semester in Detroit program has a 6 credit internship built in, plus you take a course in Detroit history and a course in Environmental Advocacy.
ENS 492 Sustainable Ag Practicum is offered in the fall and is a hands on experience at the GVSU farm.
Refugee Education Center The Refugee Education Center has opportunities for volunteers and interns to work with refugee youth and families
Grandville Avenue Center for Arts and Humanities Has volunteer and internship opportunities to work with youth in arts and academics.
Justice for Our Neighbors Is a faith-based immigration advocacy organization—they train volunteers to do client intake and assist refuges and immigrants with applying for legal permanent residency and citizenship. Bilingual Spanish skills are a plus but not required.
Hispanic Center of Western Michigan Has a wide range of opportunities for volunteers, including working with children, youth, and families, tutoring and assisting with GED classes, assisting with community health and nutrition classes, and assisting in the sexual assault services program. Dwelling Place Learning Lab Internship Program -
The Learning Lab Internship program creates opportunities to engage, develop and take ownership over projects and creative proposals that support resident and community involvement in Dwelling Place communities. We are looking for individuals who want to engage, collaborate and grow creative communities.
Ideal candidates will have an interest in art, community, social justice, marketing and/or community organizing. Candidates will be looking to expand knowledge and apply skills in: practical writing, design, event planning, volunteer and member management, social work, journalism, and other fields.

(Jenn Schaub, Neighborhood Specialist) Please include “Learning Lab/ Internship Application” in the subject line. This season's Learning Lab positions will include:
- Heartside Promotions Coordinator - Hands-on skill building around promotions for the Heartside Neighborhood including writing press releases, social media management, guerilla marketing techniques, building a written promotions portfolio. Great for someone interested in gaining experience in marketing with transferable skills useful in working for an organization or for a small business.
- Community Outreach Coordinators (3) - Dwelling Place is looking for three interns to assist with administrative duties associated with specialized community organizing projects. Candidates have an interest in making positive community change in a diverse transitioning neighborhood. Great for someone who wants to lead projects with a focus on resident engagement and collaboration between nonprofit and business organizations. Projects include Community Arts Events, Cultivating Civic Leadership and supporting the Quality of Life Project with the City of Grand Rapids.
The Dwelling Place hosts a variety of internships and volunteer positions dedicated to supporting residents and community members. Seasonally 4-7 positions are filled seasonally to support events and community organizing activities. Positions begin in September, January and May.
Interviews in December, May and August.
