West Michigan is home to one of the most diverse agriculture systems in the world and a community full of people who wish to serve the common good. Despite our abundance of altruistic initiatives, some are missing a critical component to take the next step of growth and often the missing piece for one is what another has in excess.
Opportunities abound, waiting like fertile soil for someone with the initiative to sow the seed.
In 2013 we identified these opportunities by hosting a Growing Connections Food Summit, where numerous relations formed are still serving our community today.
It is time once again for us to come together as a community and lend our services towards a healthy food system.
This summit brings together farmers, businesses, non-profits, educators and students of West Michigan, to stimulate dialogue and connect needs with opportunities.
The afternoon will begin with three leaders in the local food system sharing highlights of their work and visions for the future: Lance Kraii, Farm Director for New City Neighbors; Eleanor Moreno, Director of Community Engagement for The Other Way Ministries; and Youssef Darwich, Farm Manager and Educator for the GVSU Sustainable Agriculture Project.
Following the speakers, participants will have group discussions centered around various table topics, such as urban agriculture, food access, and others listed on the form below.
Come share the opportunities you see and what steps you can take down the pathway of a healthy West Michigan Food System.
