Why did you choose GVSU?
I grew up in the area. I’ve been living in Grand Rapids for 5 years or so, and I wanted to go to school close to home.
How did your journey into computing start?
I started coding by making terrible games in Unity, then I taught myself HTML, CSS, and JavaScript by watching YouTube videos. I started making websites and things, and I eventually decided to go to school for CS.
What made you want to join Blue Nucleus? What has been your favorite experience in the program so far?
I wanted to get some experience working on real projects that people will use. Becoming friends with my coworkers!
What’s a project (class or personal) that you really enjoyed working on?
As a side project, I made a 3D shader editor last spring: https://spectra-three-glsl.vercel.app/
I’m currently working on a set of animations to visualize linear algebra concepts. I’m hoping I can make them good enough that they can be used as a teaching tool.
What are some of your favorite hobbies or interests?
I play the piano, and I like to read when I have the time. I’ve been reading some books on software architecture lately.
Are you a part of any clubs or RSO’s? If so, what got you started with it?
I’m the president of chess club! I’ve been playing chess for almost 1000 days straight (4 days away as of writing this). I immediately joined the club when I started going to GVSU, and it’s been a blast.
What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
I have a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. On the weekends I work as an assistant instructor.
Fun Facts:
- Preferred OS: Windows for now, but I want to switch to Linux at some point.
- Early Bird vs Night Owl: Both, I don't get enough sleep!
- Describe Blue Nucleus in One Word: Effervescent.
What is your goal after graduating?
I’d like to get into a software developer role. I’d like a job where I can be a little creative.
