Major: Computer Science
Year: Sophomore
Why did you choose GVSU?
I live in Grand Haven and the commute and proximity played a big factor. I was also immensely impressed with the initiatives that GVSU’s computing department supports and after a couple of years in the program, I am continuously amazed by the individualized support students receive to achieve their goals.
What made you want to join Blue Nucleus?
I was recommended by my professor after taking CIS 163, and after looking into their goals of supporting student success and the local community through software solutions, I was hooked. Blue Nucleus has made me feel like I’m a part of something bigger than myself,
What has been your favorite experience in the program so far?
Getting to push myself in a technical role has been a profoundly positive experience, but I think my favorite part has been seeing the impact of my programming firsthand. Interacting with my client and pilot students to gather feedback has given me a well-rounded perspective on what I am trying to build, and it has helped me develop my professional skills that I hadn’t fully considered before.
What is your goal after Graduating?
I am currently pursuing my combined degree with my Bachelor’s in Computer Science and Master’s in Applied Computer Science. Post grad-school, I am interested in pursuing an industry that supports my goals as a client-focused developer.
Favorite Hobbies and Interest:
I love to crochet, sculpt, take photos, paint, draw, write, and sing in choir! As much as I love logical thinking, I really enjoy going in the complete opposite direction in my free time, and making art that connects with my interests and emotions.
Are you a part of any clubs or RSO’s? If so, what got you started with it?
I am a proud member of two choirs at GVSU, the University Arts Chorale and Animal Vocal Ensemble. I have been in choir since middle school and it has always been a source of passion for me. I also love to attend club meetings like women in computing when my schedule allows.
Fun Fact(s):
- I am planning to get my motorcycle license after I graduate! I’ve been riding motorcycles with my dad since I was 9, and I’ve always wanted to have my own.
- Preferred OS: Windows, although I am beginning to see the draw of Linux.
- Early Bird vs Night Owl: Probably more of an early bird? As much of a struggle as waking up early can be, I feel like it gives me more control over where the day goes. I love to be up past the sun, but I’m usually a lot less productive and more tired than if I wake up early.
