Black Excellence Orientation
Welcome!
We are looking forward to your arrival on campus this fall and would like to extend an invitation for you to participate in Grand Valley State University’s Black Excellence program. This three-day orientation is designed to support students who identify with the Black/African American culture - to welcome you to campus, help you connect with fellow students, faculty and staff and navigate the many campus and community resources available to you. It takes place prior to Transitions: New Student Orientation.

"I enjoyed BEO so much. The people I met and connections I made I truly appreciate. I didn’t know how much I would need these connection until later on in the year. It really helped my transition." -Chalyn Buckner
"I participated in the Black Excellence Orientation, because I wanted our incoming black students to know that we have a black community, that they’ll always be a part of. Through BEO I wanted them to understand that we have the resources to help them be successful." -Phillip Todd
