Book Club for Faculty and Staff

Starting in Winter 2018, the Big Data Initiative has organized a semester reading for interested faculty and staff.  Each book has revolved around the darker side of Big Data, as algorithms and machine learning grow in influence in the world.  Participants meet twice during the semester to discuss parts of the reading.  Here are the texts that have been part of the book club:

Winter 2018:  Weapons of Math Destruction, by Cathy O'Neil

Winter 2019:  Artificial Unintelligence, by Meredith Broussard

Winter 2020:  The Age of Surveillance Capitalism, by Shoshana Zuboff
