The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is an extremely beneficial and rewarding program, open to all majors. As ASA students, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire your mandatory volunteering hours and build your resume next semester. You have the opportunity to volunteer as a tax preparation assistant, greeter or reviewer.  Greeters do not need tax experience. They will assist community members in signing in and pairing with the preparation assistants. Tax preparation assistants will assist individuals in preparing their tax returns. Prior tax experience is helpful, but not necessary. All volunteers will receive training, and experienced reviewers will be there to answer questions on each VITA day. Critical to the success of the VITA program is having experienced reviewers on site to review returns and help answer questions. If you have prior experience preparing tax returns, please strongly consider volunteering as a reviewer so that we can make the best use of your knowledge in helping our community members with their returns. All opportunities to volunteer will positively impact community members and will count for volunteer hours. You can volunteer for as many or as few days (or half days) as you wish. Preparation assistants and reviewers will gain real-world tax experience, and firms love to see VITA on resumes!
