Mackenzie joined the AEP in 2019 as an undergraduate student. She worked at Utqiaġvik. 

In May 2020 after completing her bachelor's degree in Biology with an emphasis in Ecology and Evolution, Mackenzie elected to stay on the project as a graduate student. She ended her grad program in November of 2021. 

She is interested in ecology, ecological restoration, and climate change.
