Electrical engineers design and build systems to tackle problems big and small. They integrate the fields of electronic circuit design, electromagnetics, digital signal processing, and power systems to analyze and solve problems involving electric and electronic systems. Applications of these designs include consumer electronics, power generation and delivery, telecommunications, aviation and aerospace systems, and electric vehicles.

Engineers are innovators whose designs enhance people's lives. Students learn how to utilize mathematics, science, and technology to develop new devices, services, and systems with optimal use of resources, from an initial concept to a final product. Engineering graduates from this program are focused individuals with specific career goals that are not met by the traditional engineering majors offered at Grand Valley. Students can focus their studies in engineering fields that cut across the traditional engineering majors as well as encompassing other disciplines offered at GVSU.

Emphases areas of study in engineering offered include biomedical, data science, design and innovation, environmental, management, mechatronics, and renewable energy, in addition to customizable programs to meet students' needs.
