Allied Health Sciences, B.S. - Health Professional degree completion emphasis

The Allied Health Sciences' health professional degree (AHS-HPD) completion program is designed to provide a path for health care professionals who have an associate degree and want to earn a bachelor's degree. The AHS-HPD major is designed to complement health professionals whose careers include medical assisting, dental hygiene, radiography, sonography, and magnetic resonance imaging, along with positions as an occupational therapy aide, nuclear medicine technician, paramedic, and surgical technician.

Allied Health Sciences, B.S. - Histotechnology emphasis

Histology is a laboratory science concerned with the demonstration of cellular morphology, chemical composition, and function of normal and abnormal tissue. A histotechnologist cuts, mounts, and stains tissues removed surgically to make the cell details visible for review. With the information learned from the section of tissue biopsy, a pathologist and physician can make appropriate diagnoses and determine the best course of treatment for a patient. Those who study food and nutrition focus on integrating nutrition knowledge into medical nutrition therapy for the prevention and treatment of disease. Nutrition education and counseling and food service management are key skills emphasized throughout the program.
