Attached for your use is a summary with abstracts of publications produced in 2008. Many of the publications are from the Sustainable Water Resources Management track of the Water Environment Federation (WEF) national conference (WEFTEC.08), see http://www.wef.org/ Others have been developed for various reasons, and where possible links are given to access the full text of the paper. In the case of the WEFTEC.08 papers, the conference proceedings are available from WEF. The purpose of making these publications available is to provide government and other organizations with credible results of professional efforts in the field of water resources sustainability. It may be that current or prospective initiatives would benefit from the knowledge contained in some of the publications. Generally, only those working within specific agencies would be aware if such opportunities exist. For that reason the attachment should be distributed as widely as possible. In each case there is some author who works as a professional in water resources, and can be contacted if there is interest in his/her work. Another reason for making these publications available is to provide products for the investment that federal agencies have made in the work of the Sustainable Water Resources Roundtable. As such, the content represents a return on the federal investment. Scientific investigation usually requires many years to become established, but by now a degree of momentum has been achieved, and results of this sort are to be expected in future years. Although the publications are for 2008, other years are also available. The results of earlier years are contained on the Reports and Publications page of the web site at http://acwi.gov/swrr/ In some cases there are still active copyrights, but to the extent possible publications have been provided in full text. All these publications cover a wide variety of subjects related to water sustainability. For anyone who wishes more information about the publications, you can contact me at etsmithsiri@aol.com (phone 703-860-1038). As a volunteer, I will be pleased to describe the process more fully, obtain more details for you, and get you in contact with any of the authors. Beyond this set of publications, additional work is now underway to produce a 2008 annual report for the water roundtable. At this time it looks like the report will contain a number of studies that relate to specific geographic regions, and which may be useful to organizations working in those regions. More information about this will be available in the future, as those developing the report proceed. It remains vital for work of this kind to be related to the efforts now going on among many organizations involved in the concept of sustainability. The ongoing activities of all these organizations working for many years will no doubt be needed to make progress. By working together, we hope to promote the scientific foundation for water resources sustainability. The 2008 publications attached are a contribution to this continuing joint effort.
