Graduate Students

Grand Valley graduate students wishing to be considered for federal student loans should file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  All graduate scholarships require U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status.

Financial aid programs available to graduate students include:

  • Federal Work-Study (FAFSA required): On-campus employment. Not offered to students with assistantships since both programs require work commitments.
  • Federal Direct Loans (FAFSA required): Loans of up to $20,500 per traditional year or the total cost of attendance minus other resources, whichever is less.
  • Federal Graduate PLUS Loans (FAFSA required):  Loans up to the cost of attendance minus other resources.  Students must meet the credit worthiness.
  • Private alternative loans (FAFSA may be required): Loans from banks and financial institutions that are often used to "fill-out" a higher cost program where other aid does not meet all costs.
  • Graduate Assistantships: An opportunity to work with various departments within Grand Valley while earning work experience and tuition assistance.

If you apply for financial aid, the value of other resources such as assistantships will be taken into consideration when making awards.
