Financial Aid

Types of Aid

Financial aid consists of many types of assistance.  The assistance you may be offered can be awarded by the federal or state government, Grand Valley, other agencies or a private donor.  Grand Valley strongly encourages all students to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as this is the primary application for the majority of financial aid programs.

Financial Aid can be considered either gift aid or self-help aid. Gift aid is awards that do not need to be repaid such as grants and scholarships. Self-help aid includes work study and loans.
