1. CLAS Voyage

The CLAS Voyage team has had a productive semester in the defining and designing phase of our work. Our primary product was the Curricular Frameworks for High Impact Practices, which is now available for conversations and feedback. We are confident that the work we’ve done has laid the groundwork for a successful next stretch of work.

We’ve identified project goals for the Winter 2023 semester, and are excited to share our anticipated actions, in no particular order.

  • Continue mapping the status of HIPs across the college, units, and majors
  • Mutual exploration of HIPs with interested faculty: What are they? How do we implement these to scale? How do we support them?
  • Further refine college- and unit-wide needs for faculty and staff in supporting HIPs
  • Develop the Embarking Experience model collaboratively with the Divisions of Student Affairs and Enrollment Development
  • Decide on Pilots for the Embarking Experience and unit-based student learning communities (applications forthcoming and due late January)
  • Call for and support units in summer work to work on embedding HIPs into the majors (applications forthcoming and due late January)
  • Continue to outreach to units to support conversations on HIPs and curricular alignment
  • Begin participating in the AAC&U Institute on ePortfolios and create the feedback mechanisms internal to CLAS and GVSU
  • Connect with student voices, individual and within groups such as student senate, student organizations and other affinity groups for feedback and support in refining the Voyage.

We look forward to continuing to build on our successes this past semester, and as always welcome feedback, thoughts, and questions

2. “Undeliverable” Incomplete Grade Form

Please double check for typos in the email address you enter for your students on the CLAS Incomplete Grade Form. We have received many “undeliverable” emails from Outlook that can’t be delivered to the student because of typos. The Incomplete form serves as a contract between the instructor and student laying out the terms of completing course work, so if the student doesn’t receive a copy, they could argue that they didn’t understand what was required. Student email addresses are easily accessible in Banner.
